The Sound that Transcends Time
Thoughts jumbling through my mind
No acknowledgment of the world
Not the cars whizzing by
Nor the music dancing from radios
Nor the construction vehicles buzzing and beeping
The sound of eternal nothingness
Is present yet ignored
The sound of human success
And failure
Take a breath
Pause
Release your thoughts, I say
The world dissolves around me
I become the ground beneath my feet
The Earth’s breath vibrating through my body
Suddenly, eternal nothingness transforms into the sound that remains present through time
The cars fade
Along with the music
And the distractions
Nature supersedes
The warmth of the sun greets me
As the chirping of birds kisses my ear
And the wind carries leaves along to their next lives
When did those rabbits get there?
Have there always been flowers blooming in my tree?
Had they just arrived, I would have faith in my senses
But they didn’t
They have always been there
Nature was always present
Ignored and betrayed
By the same beings whom she serves
Nature is no longer masked
By the poor excuses of society
The destruction of beauty
To promote superficiality
No more
I hear it
I hear the sound of time
The sound that has witnessed everything
The beauty that is so often diminished
Tranquility soothes my mind
New acknowledgment of the world
I ignore the cars whizzing by
And the music dancing from radios
And the construction vehicles buzzing and beeping
I ignore the sound of eternal nothingness
The sound of human success
And failure
I only hear nature’s voice
The soothing whisper of all living beings
The sound that was meant for humans
The sound that transcends time
